Ideas to enjoy the terrace

April 28, 2021

If you do not yet have a flat with a terrace and you are considering the option of buying or renting a property with one, at Inmobiliaria Espígul we have a wide variety of properties to suit your needs.

If you already have a home with a terrace, whether rented or owned, keep reading to find new ideas and tips to make the most of it.

Get your terrace ready

One of the first things to consider is the furniture. The most important thing to consider is the material. It must be resistant, as it must be able to withstand any weather phenomenon without deteriorating. You should also take into account that they are well positioned and that they cannot move if there are strong winds.

If the furniture is completely uncovered, the most resistant materials are made of resin or artificial fibres. On the other hand, furniture that can be covered can be made of wood or iron, taking care to avoid humidity because they can rust.

Another option is easy-to-fold or modular furniture that allows you to change the layout of the terrace quickly and easily as you wish.

Finally, the most advisable thing to do is to adapt the furniture to the space available. It is not the same to have a small terrace, a long but narrow terrace or a large terrace. Assess your priorities and decide what furniture is really necessary to achieve a balanced space.

Turn your terrace into a multi-functional space.

Enjoyment, this is the main mission of a terrace. That’s why we propose different activities to make the most of your time outdoors:

Urban vegetable garden. They became fashionable a few years ago and it seems that they are here to stay. It is very gratifying to be able to grow small vegetables or aromatic herbs and then use them to cook your favourite dishes. To make these mini-gardens you can use cultivation boards, which are tall structures designed to place soil and plant whatever you prefer.

Space for the little ones. Children also enjoy outdoor spaces a lot, so we can reserve a corner for them with their favourite games so that they can make the most of the terrace. You can choose to make ground games if you have tiles or put a small pool for the hottest days.

Reading corner. Very necessary to relax and disconnect after a long day of work. To enjoy your favourite novel, all you need is a good chair or pouffe that is comfortable, you can also opt for a hanging hammock. You can finish this corner with a side table and a light for when it starts to get dark.

Don’t neglect the details

A good terrace cannot be without three key elements: textiles, lighting and plants. These will help you to decorate the terrace and make it more welcoming and pleasant.

Textiles are essential on a terrace, we are talking about pillows, mattresses, carpets… They must be resistant to humidity, to the sun’s rays and also easy to clean. What are the most common ones? Natural fibre canvases, vinyl, acrylic fabric or fabrics made from fibres such as polypropylene.

Good lighting will give a special touch to the terrace. It should have two objectives: decorative and functional. That is why you can combine different types of lighting to achieve a cosy space: garlands, LEDs, solar lamps, candles and lanterns…

Finally, don’t forget to add colour with natural elements such as plants and flowers. They bring a lot of life and you can place them in many different ways: in vertical gardens on the wall, with pots on the floor or in planters scattered throughout the space.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that at Espígul we have a new development of new-build flats in Sant Gregori with terraces that are ideal for applying all the tips in this post!
